ST. LOUIS – Red Cross teamed up with the St. Louis Cardinals to give blood intended to help local first responders in need.

The midday blood drive at Busch Stadium was meant to honor first responders who have been injured on the job.

Two first responders, Collin Ledbetter and Nathan Speeds, were honored in 2022 after sustaining serious injuries. They needed blood transfusions while in medical care.

Those transfusions could be the difference between life or death for a seriously injured person. Ledbetter says he’s grateful for 40 units of blood that save his life.

Everyone who donated Saturday received a special St. Louis Cardinals-themed gift.
