ST. LOUIS – Dangerous heat and humidity are expected Tuesday through Thursday.

Top afternoon temperatures are expected to be in the upper 90s each day, with heat index values as high as 110. There is little relief overnight, as humid air will keep temperatures from cooling off much.

Try to avoid spending too much time outside in the core heating hours of 11 a.m. to about 5 p.m. each day, stay hydrated, and check on pets and neighbors.

We are continuing to watch for batches of thunderstorms to ride along the ridge of the big heat.

The best chances for additional storms Tuesday will be along and east of the Mississippi River during the evening. Heavy rain and strong winds would be the main concerns.

We’ll watch to see how far back west storms may stretch. Another round of storms looks possible around sunrise Wednesday morning.

None of these storms break the heat. They only temporarily cool us down but add to our humid air.

A cold front late Thursday should finally bring in a slightly cooler and drier air mass, getting us back to “normal” summer.
