ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A Berkeley, Missouri, man is in custody for the shooting death of his girlfriend.

According to the St. Louis County Police Department’s probable cause statement, the shooting happened on April 6.

Police claim Vaughn Spivey was driving his car when he got into an argument with his girlfriend, Ashanti Taylor, about their relationship. Spivey allegedly took out a gun and shot Taylor in the chest.

Spivey drove back to his home and called 911 to request an ambulance. Police claim Spivey passed a hospital along the way.

While on the phone, Spivey did not explain what had happened. Police arrived with EMTs and found Taylor in the passenger seat with a gunshot wound. Taylor was brought to the hospital, where she later died.

Spivey was arrested at his home. Police claim he admitted to shooting Taylor but said it was an accident.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Spivey with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. Spivey remains jailed on a $500,000 cash-only bond. He’s due in court next week for a bond reduction hearing.
