ST. LOUIS – People’s Health Center on Delmar Boulevard will be the place to be on Saturday for their annual back-to-school fair.
This year’s event is all about supporting the community, as they prepare for the new school year. Free health screenings, wellness assessments, and plenty of fun activities are on the agenda.
Preparations were underway Friday for the hundreds of families expected to attend.
Visitors can look forward to free school supplies, haircut vouchers, and gun locks. Kids will be able to enjoy bounce houses, rock climbing, face painting, and games. Those 18 years of age and older can receive $50 gift cards.
“For those that’ll do three of the five assessments, we’ll give them a free $50 gift card. So they can take it….they can use it for food if they need it, gas if they need it or if they just need to pay a bill,” Mark Sanford, executive director of People’s Community Action Corporation, said.
With the St. Louis Fire Department, police, and sheriff in attendance, the staff stated safety would be assured. The staff emphasized that their focus is on the health of the entire community, especially women’s well being and their annual assessment.
“We find the neighborhoods that we find the least amount of access to care… that’s why we put this together in the central city because it’s accessible by the MetroLink, the Delmar MetroLink and the DeBalievere MetroLink” Sanford said.
There will be free health supplies, tests, and screenings by physicians, including OBGYNs. This event is important to the People’s Community Action Corporation.
“This is important to us because we know…families like access to services. All the services I’m talking about are free,” Sanford said. “This is one way we give back to the community and one way we’ve been doing that for quite awhile.”
The fair takes place on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 5701 Delmar Blvd.
