ST. LOUIS – The U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri has assigned a pair of assistant attorneys to handle Election Day complaints in the region in coordination with the Department of Justice’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Hal Goldsmith and Jennifer Roy will serve as District Election Officers and oversee the handling of complaints regarding voter rights, threats of violence to election officials or staff, and election fraud.

The Justice Department will address any violations wherever they occur, U.S. Attorney Sayler A. Fleming said.

“Every citizen must be able to vote without interference or discrimination and to have that vote counted in a fair and free election,” she said. “Similarly, election officials and staff must be able to serve without being subject to unlawful threats of violence.”

Goldsmith and Roy will be on duty while the polls are open in Missouri. They can be reached at 314-539-7733.

U.S. Attorney Fleming said federal law prohibits threatening violence against election officials and staff, intimidating or bribing voters, buying and selling votes, impersonating voters, altering votes or tallies, stuffing ballot boxes, and marking ballots for voters against their wishes or without their input.

The FBI will have special agents available in every field office and resident agency throughout the country to investigate and address allegations of election fraud and other election abuses on Election Day. Tips can be made by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI or online at tips.fbi.gov.

Complaints about possible violations of the federal voting rights laws can be made directly to the Civil Rights Division in Washington, D.C., by complaint form at https://civilrights.justice.gov/ or by phone at 800-253-3931.
