Apparent sinkhole forms in Bridgeton

BRIDGETON, Mo. – The Bridgeton Police Department has responded to an apparent sinkhole Friday afternoon.

Authorities are responding to a reported sinkhole near South Hollenberg Drive.

The sinkhole will lead to some road closures as crews investigate. Bridgeton police say Rider Trail South between Foerster Road and Hollenberg Drive will be closed.


Manchester Police Chief placed on administrative leave amid investigation

No injuries have been reported from the sinkhole as of Friday afternoon.

According to the United States Geological Survey, “sinkholes are common where the rock below the land surface is limestone, carbonate rock, salt beds, or rocks that can naturally be dissolved by groundwater.”
