ST. LOUIS – New owners step up to give new life to two historic buildings in St. Louis’ Midtown neighborhood.
The Kranzberg Arts Foundation plans to acquire two buildings in the 3200 block of Olive Street. The foundation is planning to save both buildings from demolition and redevelop them to promote local arts within St. Louis.
Both buildings date back to 1897. They’re among the few original buildings that still stand along the fringes of the former Mill Creek Valley neighborhood.
The agreement, first announced Wednesday, comes in partnership with Saint Louis University and with assistance from the Landmarks Association of St. Louis.
“The agreement will strengthen and bolster the partnership between KAF and SLU and help catalyze the momentum and connectivity of Midtown and the Grand Center Arts District,” said the Kranzberg Arts Foundation via a news release.
“We look forward to seeing what the future will bring for these important pieces of St. Louis’ architectural heritage,” said Andrew Weil, Executive Director of the Landmarks Association of St. Louis.
The Landmarks Association of St. Louis has offered time, expertise, and resources to inform and support the development process.
“Landmarks put out the rallying cry, energizing the community around preserving these buildings that are an important part of St. Louis history and the history of the Mill Creek Valley neighborhood,” said Chris Hansen, Executive Director of the Kranzberg Arts Foundation. “The Foundation saw it as an exciting opportunity to continue growing a thriving arts district and bring new community benefits and amenities to the broader Midtown area.”
