PACIFIC, Mo. – A trip to the salon turned deadly after a freak accident at Pacific Hair and Nails Spa this weekend.
Jill Goddard of Pacific was accidentally run over by her best friend after getting their nails done Saturday, according to police. Goddard was 61.
Surveillance footage from a nearby business shows the car slowly backing up, then suddenly accelerating backward, going through the wall of the salon.
“We’re still not sure if it’s driver error, (if) she got her foot stuck on the gas pedal, or possibly meant to hit the brakes and hit the gas on accident, or if there’s some kind of vehicle defect,” Cpl. Dallas Thompson from the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.
The driver of the car hit two other people inside, including a 52-year-old woman and a 17-year-old who was the receptionist. Both received minor injuries.
The accident shocked other business owners in the plaza.
“I know all the business owners in here… it’s really tragic as a policeman for 25 years and retired now,” Dan Donnelly, a resident, said. “(I) saw a lot of things happen, but this is really a big tragedy.”
