Injured man found in backyard dies at hospital; homicide investigation launched

ST. LOUIS – Homicide detectives with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department are investigating a suspicious death after a man was found unconscious in a backyard and later died at the hospital.

According to a police spokesperson, officers received word just before 7:30 a.m. Sunday of a suspicious person lying in the backyard of a residence in the 4700 block of Lexington Avenue, located in the Kingsway East neighborhood.

Police arrived to find a man in the yard. He was unconscious, barely breathing, and bleeding. EMS personnel rushed the man to the hospital, where doctors determined he’d suffered a traumatic brain injury and cardiac arrest. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The victim has not been identified.
