ST. LOUIS – Everything is brand new at the Homer G. Phillips Memorial Hospital, except for one thing: its name.
The name holds a lot of history in St. Louis, as the original Homer G. Phillips Hospital was one of the top Black-only hospitals in the country during a time of segregation.
Those who were connected to the original hospital are speaking out and filing a lawsuit, saying it’s not the proper way to honor the hospital or Homer G. Phillips himself.
