ST. LOUIS — What is the timeline for the icy weather near St. Louis? Freezing rain has coated the entire region in a thin glaze of ice. This has closed many schools and businesses. It appears the roads may be safer to travel on this evening as temperatures rise Monday.

Meteorologist Chris Higgins says that the untreated surfaces are very icy and dangerous. These conditions are likely to continue all morning and for at least a portion of this afternoon. If you can stay home, please do so.

The transition from ice to cold rain should begin around noon on Monday. The freezing rain should end for the bulk of the St. Louis area from 3-6 p.m.

There should be significant improvement on travel as temperatures warm both above and at ground level. The remaining slick spots in the area will most likely have an impact on the Monday evening rush hour.
