ST. LOUIS, Mo. – St. Louis police officials are working with the chief’s office to coordinate interviews with reporters after the chief promised to do more interviews in 2024.
During a weekly media briefing with reporters on Wednesday, St. Louis Police Sergeant Charles Wall said they’ve received multiple interview requests.
“We’re trying to work with the chief’s office and coordinate with the chief’s schedule to try and find times that would be suitable to facilitate that,” Wall said. “Right now, it’s still a work in progress and we don’t have any concrete times.”
The FOX Files has submitted multiple interview requests to speak with Chief Robert Tracy. In some cases, the request went unanswered. In other instances, the department simply confirmed it received the request. Tracy said he’s available to reporters, though.
During a news conference earlier this month to highlight the city’s reduction in crime, Tracy answered nine questions from reporters. He said he’s accessible despite pushing commanders out front to do interviews with reporters instead.
“For executive development, I’m here to develop the leaders of the future. I’m not going to be here forever,” Tracy said at the time. “I come from a world of allowing other people to have ownership in my department, be leaders and develop leaders. I’m aware of (the information that is released) and it goes out with my permission and my oversight.”
Wall said interviews with reporters should be scheduled soon.
“I think the goal is certainly weeks, as opposed to months,” he said. “We’re trying to get it done as quickly as possible.”
