ST. LOUIS – A 74-year-old man is accused of shooting his 19-year-old granddaughter during an argument Monday night in south St. Louis.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, Pierre Irving, 74, was charged for the shooting that happened around 11 p.m. on the 4600 block of South Broadway, inside the River Bluff Manor apartments of the Mount Pleasant neighborhood.
Irving, his 19-year-old granddaughter, and her mother were all living in the same apartment after the mother allowed Irving to stay with them, according to police.
The shooting occurred after Irving was drinking and got angry during an argument with the woman’s mother about keeping his space clean in the shared living area. Police say Irving responded by going to grab a pistol from his room before returning to the shared area space.
Once Irving returned to the space, police say he fired and missed a shot directed at the mother, then fired another shot at his 19-year-old granddaughter, which struck her on the head. The woman was transported to a nearby hospital, where she is listed in critical unstable condition. A bullet remains lodged in the woman’s head, police say
According to police, a Ring doorbell caught footage of Irving going down the hall of the apartment after the shooting and giving his gun to a neighbor.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office is charging Irving with two counts of armed criminal action and two counts of first-degree assault. Irving is being held with no bond allowed. His next court case has not yet been scheduled.
