EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. – Three years after a fire burned down several city service buildings, the Washington Park neighborhood is one step closer to finishing rebuilding the fire department.

On Oct. 26, 2021, Washington Park’s fire department, police department, and most of the public works department were destroyed in a fire.

Within the last month, construction on the fire department has concluded on the exterior, hoping the interior will be ready for winter. There’s still a long way to go, with hopes that the police department can be rebuilt next.
