HILLSBORO, Mo. — A suspect is under arrest in Jefferson County for threatening a school shooting on September 17,2024. The juvenile is charged with making a terroristic threat.
The threat, which named a time and location for the alleged shooting, prompted an immediate response from law enforcement. The school was placed on lockdown while investigators worked to trace the origin of the threat.
“We take these incidents very seriously because our students deserve a safe school
environment,” states Undersheriff Tim Whitney. “We will continue to investigate these cases to the fullest and hold those responsible accountable for their actions. Make no mistake: school threats are not a joke. They carry serious consequences that can change the course of a young person’s life.”
Collaboration between the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI St. Louis Field Office led to the identification of the suspect. Investigators say the student who initially reported the threat had created it.
