ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. – St. Charles County Elections Director Kurt Bahr covered a myriad of topics at a news conference Thursday about the upcoming election. His main message to voters: The system is secure, and ballots will be checked multiple times to protect election integrity.

During the press conference, Bahr said that in-person absentee voting is down significantly from 2020, likely because COVID-19 is not the issue it was four years ago and fewer people feel like they need to vote before the election to avoid the crowds on election day.

The decrease in people voting before election day could result in longer lines on election day. Bahr is encouraging people to vote before election day if possible during the no-excuse absentee voting period, which begins two weeks before the election on October 22.

St. Charles County has eclipsed the 300,000 mark for registered voters—that is historically the most ever in St. Charles County. Bahr says that number reflects more people living in St. Charles County but also that people are very engaged in the voting process.
