BELLEVILLE, Ill. – A teenager was shot over the weekend in Belleville. Now, the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit has been called to help the Belleville Police Department with the investigation.
According to a Belleville police spokesperson, the shooting happened in the late afternoon on Oct. 5, in the 900 block of North 2nd Street. The department received a report for a shooting just after 6:50 p.m.
Officers arrived to find a 16-year-old boy lying in the roadway near the curb. He’d been shot several times. Police provided first aid to the victim until EMS arrived to bring the teen to a St. Louis hospital.
Investigators learned the victim had been involved in an altercation over narcotics with two other male teenagers prior to the shooting. The two suspects were seen leaving the area on foot and on a bicycle. Police said they have not been located.
