CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Il. – Some area students are taking their education to new heights getting a hands-on experience in aviation at a special day camp in Cahokia Heights.
Thirty-five boys in 6th through 12th grades got a taste of what it’s like to be a pilot.
Air Speed Alive Founder Kaley Martin said he wanted to fly since he was a kid but didn’t get the hance to until he was much older.
“I was born and raised no more than 5 miles away from this location. I want to give kids like me, who do have a desire to have a career in aerospace an opportunity to meet people, certified flight instructors, that have the knowledge, that can help them train for careers in aviation,” he said.
Each student had the opportunity to go up and fly a plane, getting a first-hand look at what it takes to navigate the skies.
Martin says the goal is to inspire these young people to consider careers in aviation and give them an experience they’ll never forget.
