ST. LOUIS – Missouri Gov. Mike Parson has ordered for flags to be flown at half-staff on Saturday at all Missouri police stations, along with St. Louis City and County government buildings.

Parson has directed that U.S. and Missouri state flags to be flown at half-staff at those buildings.

Flags will fly half-staff in honor of fallen St. Louis police officer David Lee III. His funeral services are set for Saturday.

“Officer Lee dedicated 18 years of his life to honorably serving the people of St. Louis,” said Parson via a news release. “We will always remember his unwavering service to the people of our state. Teresa and I extend our thoughts and prayers to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Lee was tragically killed on September 22 while working at a crash site on I-70 eastbound near Grand Boulevard. He was struck by 24-year-old Ramon Chavez-Rodriguez, an undocumented immigrant who was allegedly driving drunk.

Authorities say Lee was moving cones when Chavez-Rodriguez lost control of his vehicle, pinning Lee against his patrol car. Lee was rushed to the hospital but died during surgery. Chavez-Rodriguez is now in custody and facing charges.

Visitation for Lee will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 at Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church on Dr. Martin Luther King Drive. A funeral service and procession will follow.

Parson announced a proclamation Friday for flags to be held at half-staff in honor of Lee.
