ST. LOUIS — Cortez Darrell Sipes, 38, has pleaded guilty to shooting two police officers, resisting arrest, and drug trafficking in St. Louis. The incident occurred on February 2, 2023, in the Soulard neighborhood.

Two officers tried to stop Sipes’ truck, which matched the description of a wanted vehicle. Sipes fled, leading to a chase that ended when he crashed into Soulard Farmer’s Market. Sipes then fired at the officers, hitting both of them.

One of the officers, despite being shot, chased and caught Sipes. Sipes used a “ghost gun” with untraceable parts. Police found fentanyl, crack cocaine, and Xanax in Sipes’ possession.

Both officers recovered and returned to duty. For one of the officers, this was his second time being shot on duty. Sipes has a history of drug and firearms convictions.
