EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. – The East St. Louis Senior High School went into lockdown Wednesday morning following a threat on social media.

According to an East St. Louis School District spokesperson, they were alerted about the post referencing violence at the high school. The spokesperson said they are working closely with local law enforcement, and all students are safe as classes are continuing.

For the high school’s safety, parents are asked to refrain from attempting to pick up their students during the lockdown.

“The safety and security of our school community remains our highest priority,” said the spokesperson. “We appreciate the cooperation and patience of our students, staff, and parents during this time. Law enforcement will remain on-site to support the safety of our campus.”
