MISSOURI – Tuesday marks National Voter Registration Day in the U.S. As November’s general election is just seven weeks away, the deadline for voters to register is quickly approaching.
For Missourians, the last day to register to vote for the Nov. 5 election is Oct. 8.
How to register to vote
In Missouri, there are a few options on how residents register to vote.
Online
An online form can be submitted on the secretary of state’s website. The form will ask several questions along with identification questions, including your political party affiliate and if you’re interested in working as an election judge.

Mail-in application
Residents can print a form online and mail it into their local election authority. Applicants will choose their residing county and be given a form to fill out online before printing and mailing it.
It should be noted that mail-in applications must be postmarked by Oct. 8 to be permitted, according to the secretary of state’s website.

In-person
Applicants may visit their county clerk’s office in person to fill out a voter registration form. Additionally, residents can go to any Department of Motor Vehicles office or any state agency that services the public for an application.

Mailed to you
Voter registration forms can also be mailed to applicants for them to send back to their local election authority. Blank forms can be expected within 3-5 business days from the initial request.
Applications will need to be postmarked by Oct. 8 to be accepted.

How to check voter registration status
Not sure if you’re already registered or if your information is up-to-date? The secretary of state’s website has a form that allows residents to check their registration status.
All that has to be filled out is a first and last name, birthday, last four digits of your social security number, and what county you registered under. Information put into the form should be precise—for example, typing your full name instead of a shortened nickname.
When you hit submit, it will say if you are registered or not. If it shows you’re registered, it will also provide information on your local polling location, jurisdiction, and other election-related resources.

Updating voter information
If you’re already registered but need to change any information, like your name, address, or political party affiliation, voters will also need to fill out and submit registration forms.
To change your name or address, complete a voter registration form through any one of the methods mentioned previously. On the form, there are checkboxes that will specify what information you are updating.
If you need to switch political party affiliations, you will have to request the change online, and the local election authority will make the update. To fill out the online form, click here.
