ST. LOUIS – A teen that was critically injured in a construction zone crash has died after spending more than a week in the hospital.
The crash occurred on the 6500 block of Hall Street around 1:30 a.m. on September 8, involving a white GMC Terrain that had three people inside.
Investigators say the GMC Terrain was traveling north on Hall Street when it entered a construction zone before the crash.
Once in the construction zone, officials say the vehicle passed the section of road closed off by cones and drove into a large hole where the road was being repaired.
Officials say one of the passengers in the vehicle, Jayvon Wilkes, 17, was taken to the hospital in unstable condition and later succumbed to his injuries on Monday, eight days after the accident.
The driver of the vehicle, a 25-year-old woman, and a 29-year-old female passenger were taken to the hospital, and both were listed to be in stable condition.
