OVERLAND, Mo. – Families in Overland dealt with early dismissals and flooded basements on Wednesday due to a water line break near Midland Boulevard and Woodson Road. Missouri American Water said the area is under a precautionary boil advisory until Friday.
“It looks like a war zone kind of, you know; all this gravel, all this mud, all this overflow,” Michael Hollis said.
Around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Hollis noticed an alert from Missouri American Water.
“Something is going on somewhere. I didn’t think it was on my street. But I learned after that one,” he said.

Missouri American Water said employees at their control center noticed a drop in pressure for Overland customers. Crews said the break is on a 20-inch water line.
Nearby schools in the Ritenour School District were also affected.
“In our buildings we have no or low water pressure in more than half of our ten buildings,” Superintendent Chris Kilbride said. “Students using restrooms, also our ability to provide lunch for students is impacted. We’re committed to the whole student here in the district and certainly providing students lunch so that they can learn at high levels. When we can’t do that, it is a major issue.”
Kilbride said students will be back in the classrooms on Thursday. He said if anything changes, they’ll contact families through the Blackboard system.
