FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. – A man faces felony charges for public indecency he allegedly committed at a convenience store in Fairview Heights shortly after he had applied for a job at the store, police say.

The St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged Thonchel B. Brazier-Scott, 32, with two counts of public indecency, one count of public indecency within 500 feet of a school and one count of failure to register as a sex offender amid the investigation.

The Fairview Heights Police Department was first informed of indecent exposure at an undisclosed convenience store on Aug. 26.

According to a press release from the department, an employee observed a suspect, later identified as Brazier-Scott, committing a lewd act. The employee also reported to police that the suspect had exposed himself to two other employees on the previous day.

Police quickly identified Brazier-Scott as a suspect and issued a “Be On the Lookout” alert to patrol units. That’s also when police learned that he had recently applied for a job at the same store.

On August 30, a Fairview Heights officer recognized Brazier-Scott riding a bicycle in the vicinity and, after confirming his identity, took him into custody without incident.

Police say Brazier-Scott is a registered sex offender who had failed to register his new address with the police department after moving to the area from Springfield, Illinois, which is a violation of state law.

“The Fairview Heights Police Department is committed to ensuring the safety of our community and will continue to work diligently to bring justice to all involved,” said the department in a news release Tuesday. “At the time of this writing, Brazier-Scott is being held at the St. Clair County Jail pending his court date.”
