Woman sentenced for shooting co-worker at Family Dollar store

ST. LOUIS – A woman appeared in court on Friday for shooting a co-worker outside of a Family Dollar store last year.

According to the Circuit Attorney’s Office of the City of St. Louis, Myah Blankinship, 22, pleaded guilty for shooting her coworker in the 2700 block of North Florissant Avenue on September 26, 2023.

Blankinship and her co-worker had been involved in an ongoing conflict leading up to the day of the shooting when an argument turned into a physical fight.

The Circuit Attorney’s Office said surveillance video captured Blankinship’s co-worker leaving the store after the fight, and Blakinship pulled out a handgun from her purse.

Blankinship shot her co-worker in the head, fracturing her jaw. The co-worker’s young son and nephew were standing next to her when she was shot.

According to the Circuit Attorney’s Office, Blankinship pleaded guilty to first-degree assault, armed criminal action, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

She faces between 10 and 30 years in prison or life without the possibility of parole for the assault charge. Up to 15 years in prison for armed criminal action and up to a year in jail on each of the child endangerment charges.
