ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Public Schools District has taken additional steps to resolve the transportation issues that have plagued the start of this school year.

Roughly a thousand students who were left uncertain about how they would get to school now have a reliable transportation option, thanks to additional buses secured by the district.

The challenges began after Missouri Central School Bus, which was the district’s primary transportation provider, ended its contract following the last school year. This led to confusion and frustration for many families as they struggled to find alternative transportation solutions.

Acting Superintendent Dr. Millicent Borishade announced over the weekend that the district is working closely with First Student, their new main transportation partner, to expand bus routes and make sure students have safe and reliable transportation.

While some students may still rely on cab services temporarily, Dr. Borishade assured families in a letter sent out over the weekend that the district is committed to finding long-term solutions.

The district has also launched a re-routing of the transportation system, which was implemented over Labor Day weekend. This new system is designed to expand ridership capacity and ensure every student can get to school safely.

Families are encouraged to visit the district’s Transportation FAQ page on SLPS.org for the latest updates and to submit any questions they might have.
