OSAGE COUNTY, Mo. – An adult and a child died and five other people were injured Sunday evening in boating accident on the Gasconade River.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s incident report, the crash happened at 7 p.m. just upstream from Pointers Creek.
The highway patrol said the pilot of a 2002 Gator boat inadvertently struck a root wad, causing the boat to strike a rock bluff.
The Osage County Coroner pronounced the pilot, 30-year-old Reven Newbound, and a 7-year-old girl dead at the scene at 7:30 p.m. The two died from their injuries.
Two other adults were on the watercraft: a 21-year-old woman suffered minor injuries and a 29-year-old woman was seriously injured. Three other children were also aboard at the time of the crash: an infant boy, a 4-year-old girl, and a 9-year-old girl. Each suffered serious injuries.
The highway patrol’s report indicates the children were wearing life vests, while the adults were not.
