HAZELWOOD, Mo. -The Hazelwood Police Department Friday investigated a fight that broke out across the street from Hazelwood West High School after the first home football game Thursday night.

“There’s several officers during the game providing security. When the football games are over, we usually have several cars in the area to help with traffic control and crowd control,” Lt. Brendan Gilbert said.

Hazelwood School District released a statement following the incident:

“The safety and security of our students, staff, and community are our top priority. The first home football game of the 2024/2025 school year occurred on the campus of Hazelwood West High School last evening. The game was well-attended, and there were no incidents during or after the game on the campus. Hazelwood security was present and ensured safety on the campus at all times. Based on police reports, there were incidents at the McDonald’s in the neighboring community, to which the Hazelwood police department responded.”

“After the football game, there was a large crowd of juveniles or student spectators that left the campus, went across the street to the McDonald’s. Very large group of juveniles gathered there; a fight broke out,” Gilbert said.

Officers called for assistance, and a large number of officers from surrounding departments came to help.

“It was between four females, all juveniles. Three of the juveniles were detained and released to their parents on scene. The fourth female, we’re still waiting to make contact,” Gilbert added.

All four of the teens are high school age and facing assault charges. One of the teens is also facing an assault on a police officer charge.

“When the officer broke up the fight, one of the females struck the officer while trying to leave the scene,” Gilbert said.
