ST. LOUIS – A University City man pleaded guilty on Thursday to the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old in 2020.

According to the 22nd Judicial Circuit Court of Missouri, Andre Brooks, 27, was sentenced to a 10-year prison term for involuntary manslaughter of Cameron J. Carter following a plea deal.

Authorities said Carter was found shot in the evening in the 500 block of DeBaliviere Avenue near Delmar Boulevard on July 4, 2020. Prosecutors said Brooks shot Carter following an argument earlier in the day, and part of the shooting was caught on surveillance video.

Brooks was set for a jury trial next week on charges for first-degree murder and armed criminal action. A prosecutor reportedly dropped one count of armed criminal action as part of the plea deal.
