ST. LOUIS – Redbird Nation endured the heat in Thursday’s game versus the San Diego Padres.

On their way in and out, fans could drench themselves at a cooling station provided by the St. Louis Fire Department or fill up with ice-cold water at numerous hydration stations around the ballpark.

No matter whether fans were in the sun or in the shade, they were prepared for a late August broiler at Busch Stadium.

“We watched the people baking in the sun, but then they came up and started squirting them with water, which was great. So it was very nice,” Barbara Brugger, a Wildwood Cardinals fan said.

Chesterfield Mall is in its final days. What’s next?

One group of friends opted to leave the game early and settle for a slice of local pie in the air conditioning.

“We were at the game, and it was super hot. We were sitting in the shade and we were hungry, so we decided to come on over here to Katie’s Pizza and Pasta,” Erica Branz, a fan from O’Fallon, IL, said.

The next time the Cardinals are back in town, there’s a great chance it’ll be cooler. They host the Seattle Mariners on Friday, Sept. 6.
