ST. LOUIS – Manhole covers are popping up from some sidewalks and roadways in north St. Louis, possibly from an underground explosion.
Emergency officials have responded to St. Louis’ North Riverfront neighborhood near East Grand Boulevard.
The St. Louis Fire Department tells FOX 2 that at least five manhole covers were blown off on Thursday. Investigators suspect, based on preliminary reports, this stemmed from an underground explosion.
Spire officials confirm there was no detection for natural gas issues in the area.
Police are blocking off part of East Grand Boulevard as crews work to investigate clear the area. Water is gushing from at least one fire hydrant.
No injuries have been reported as crews work to determine more about the situation.
