ROLLA, Mo. – The Rolla Police Department announced on Tuesday that suspicious credit card skimmers were reportedly found at local gas stations.

The Rolla PD shared on Facebook that they received reports of illegally installed devices placed at gas pumps in the area.

Credit card skimmers are devices used to steal credit card information and record cardholder PIN entries when paying at a pump. Police said the skimmers were found internally at the pumps and are undetectable by the victims.

Police advise locals to inspect the card reader and, if it looks tampered with or loose, to use a different pump or pay inside.

They also suggest using credit instead of debit or contactless payment and monitoring bank statements after a purchase. If customers notice anything suspicious at a pump, they are advised to report it to the gas station attendant or bank.
