Florissant man charged after bar fight goes too far: Police

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A Florissant man is due in St. Louis County Circuit Court on Monday following a weekend bar fight that left another man hospitalized.

According to the Florissant Police Department’s probable cause statement, the fight occurred Friday evening outside a local bar.

Police said the victim and Courtney L. Woods, 41, got into an argument inside the bar. The argument escalated and Woods walked outside the bar and got into a fighting stance.

Surveillance video shows the victim following Woods outside and throwing a punch, police said. The two men fight and struggle for a brief period until the victim drops to the ground, unconscious.

Police said Woods then punched the unconscious victim seven more times. A large pool of blood and splatter could be seen on the sidewalk.

When the victim came to, he was taken to a local hospital.

According to investigators, Woods claimed he only struck the victim once and knocked him out. However, he later changed his story and said he blacked out after the fight began and kept punching the victim.

Woods was taken into custody on August 18.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Woods with third-degree assault. He was jailed on a $30,000 cash-only bond.
