Man charged with 8 break-ins over two-week period

ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis County man is facing nearly two dozen charges for eight business burglaries committed over a two-week period across the city.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statements, the break-ins took place between May 16 and May 30 at the following locations:

May 16: JD’s Corner, 4700 block of Michigan Avenue (Mt. Pleasant)

May 20: JB’s 2021 Mobile Service, 2000 block of East Grand Boulevard (College Hill)

May 21: Family Dollar, 4200 block of South Broadway (Mt. Pleasant)

May 22: Broadway Mart, 4200 block of South Broadway (Mt. Pleasant)

May 22: Boost Mobile, 3600 block of Page Boulevard (Grand Center)

May 27: Your Corner Market and Deli, 6200 block of Michigan Avenue (Carondelet)

May 30: Boost Mobile, 3300 block of Gravois Avenue (Benton Park West)

May 30: Mobil, 3700 block of North Grand Boulevard (Fairground)

Police said Theodore Mathias, 21, and other suspects broke into the businesses and would steal merchandise, bust open ATMs or gaming machines, or steal cash from a storage area.

Mathias was arrested on August 5. Police said he admitted his involvement in the eight burglaries.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Mathias with two counts of first-degree burglary, six counts of second-degree burglary, seven counts of stealing – $750 or more, six counts of first-degree property damage, one count of second-degree property damage, and one county of stealing. Mathias remains jailed without bond pending trial. He’s due in court for a detention hearing on August 14.
