Woman, 60, charged with attempted kidnapping in Edwardsville

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – A woman is in custody after attempting to snatch a toddler off the street in downtown Edwardsville, Illinois.

According to Edwardsville Police Chief Michael Fillback, the attempted abduction occurred just after 10 a.m. on August 1 in the 200 block of North Main Street.

Police and prosecutors said Jennifer S. Haley, 60, grabbed a 2-year-old and refused to return the child to her mother.

Haley fled before officers arrived. She was located minutes later inside the Madison County Administration Building and taken into custody.

The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Haley with attempted aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, and unlawful restraint.
