BRENTWOOD, Mo. – Metro Transit officials held a hiring event Saturday morning in hopes to attract more workers.

Organizers say the hiring event drew large crowds, including 30-40 people in the first 30 minutes. Interviews began at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Metro Bus facility in Brentwood.

Metro is looking to expand its footprint of bus drivers, Metrolink drivers, call-a-ride drivers, and mechanics, among other positions. Some applicants were even offered jobs on the spot.

“People are walking out of here and showing a white sheet or paper and saying, ‘I’m showing up September 9,” said Charles Stewart, Metro Transit Chief Operating Officer.

Stewart says Metro Transit is still offering a $5,000 sign-on bonus for mechanics and Call-A-Ride operators, searching for 50 more people for both positions.
