BOND COUNTY, ILL – The Bond County Sheriff’s Department posted on social media warning residents about fake phone calls that appear to be from the Bond County Sheriff’s Department.

“A foreign-speaking, heavily accented man told a Bond County resident that she was under investigation by our office. The resident immediately became suspicious due to the nature of the call,” said the sheriff’s department.

The sheriff’s department explained that the victim told the caller she would hang up and call the sheriff’s office herself because she had no idea what he was talking about. The caller sternly told her not to hang up.

This is a scam that may involve attempting to collect money on a fake warrant. Do not give out your personal information to anyone you are not certain of. If you receive a phone call you did not initiate, hang up and call the company back using a number you have for that business.

According to the sheriff’s department, there is a current scam involving Wells Fargo. Individuals call from a legitimate Wells Fargo phone number to get you to provide personal information.

They claim to be from the fraud department at Wells Fargo, stating that someone has tried to access your account. They then proceed to ask personal questions to obtain information they can use to hack into your account, sometimes cleaning it out.

Please, if you receive a call like this and are even the least bit suspicious, hang up and call back using a number you have.
