ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis man appeared in federal court earlier this week and was sentenced for setting his girlfriend’s apartment on fire after threatening her with a gun.

Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri said Willie Latimore, 27, pleaded guilty in April to one count of arson and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The fire was set on May 11, 2023, at the victim’s Washington Avenue apartment.

Latimore admitted piling clothing on his then-girlfriend’s stove and setting it ablaze. The victim was hiding at a neighbor’s apartment after Latimore threatened her with a gun earlier in the day.

The St. Louis Real Time Crime Center tracked Latimore’s vehicle and police arrested him later that day after brief pursuit.

A U.S. District Court judge sentenced Latimore to 66 months in federal prison and ordered him to pay $7,087 in restitution to the owners of the apartment building.
