ST. LOUIS – Thousands of people braved the weather at Busch Stadium Wednesday, finding plenty of ways to beat the over 90-degree heat.

Plans included power fans to giant fans as well as coolers filled with water. Spectators were aware of how to stay safe while enjoying the game.

“Staying cool as best as we can; drink plenty of water and stay out of the sun,” fan Don Ross said.

Extra EMT’s were present in the stadium in case of any heat-related emergencies as hot temperatures and high humidity persisted.

“(I) wear a lot of light clothes and usually wear a hat,” Betty Scherman said.

Those who had tickets out of direct sunlight were overcome with relief.

“Our seats are in the shade, so we’re happy about that,” Ross said.

Hydration is key, as lots of water was on hand, but some decided to go with their own drink of choice.

“I drink Arnold Palmers with lots of ice and they’re really good. Lemonade and iced tea; you get both at the same time,” Scherman said.

And accessories were not left behind.

“We got some fans and stay hydrated,” fan Joe McBride said. “Get some good ole’ ice cream.”

Busch Stadium says that with the extreme heat, there are several ways they are helping fans stay cool, which include:

Seven 125-gallon “Water Monster” coolers to provide fans with free water.

“Swamp” fans placed around the stadium gates to keep cool as fans enter.

Ushers have been instructed to look for signs of heat stroke and heat exhaustion, as well as offering to move fans into shaded areas if they notice anyone exhibiting symptoms.

Extra medical crews to assist with heat-related cases.

The club is allowing fans in the Log and Pavilion & Terrace to move seats into shaded areas as long as they are not already taken.
