ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Cardinals are finalizing a three-team trade that would bring veteran starter Erick Fedde and former Cardinals outfielder Tommy Pham to St. Louis while sending Tommy Edman to the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to several reports.

Ken Rosenthal, baseball insider for The Athletic, first reported of the deal. Sources have since confirmed with ESPN’s Jeff Passan and MLB.com’s Mark Fiensand, among others.

The Cardinals have yet to formally announce the trade as of 1 p.m. Monday.

According to USA Today Baseball reporter Bob Nightengale, the trade is believed to consist of the following parts:

Cardinals get: Starting pitcher Erick Fedde and outfielder Tommy Pham from the White Sox

Dodgers get: Infielder Tommy Edman from the Cardinals and pitcher Michael Kopech from the White Sox

White Sox get: Infielder Miguel Vargas, along with prospects Jeral Perez and Alexander Abertus from the Dodgers.

Erick Fedde presumably joins the Cardinals after a strong season with the last-place Chicago White Sox (7-4 record, 3.11 ERA, 108 strikeouts, 121.1 IP). He was building a career year with a Chicago White Sox team that leads MLB in losses.

Fedde previously spent six seasons with the Washington Nationals as an average starting pitcher at best, though reestablished himself after taking a one-year break last year to pitch overseas in the KBO. He is in the first season of a two-year, $15 million contract, which makes him an inexpensive option that the Cardinals have largely desired in past seasons.

Pham, who played for the Cardinals from 2014-2018, also reportedly returns to St. Louis. The reunion would give St. Louis more experience in a young outfield and also a right-handed depth bat that St. Louis has desperately needed against left-handed pitching.

Meanwhile, Tommy Edman was a likely trade candidate due to the Cardinals surplus of big-league talent and the emergence of another utilityman in Brendan Donovan.

Edman, 29, has missed the entire MLB season to this point due to prolonged injuries, first sidelined from wrist surgery and more recently a sprained ankle. He is still believed to be a few weeks away from returning to MLB action.

It’s not believed the Cardinals dealt anyone to the White Sox or anyone other than Edman in the trade.

This is a developing story. Check back for additional details.
