ST. LOUIS – Ora Mayes can’t sleep at night over the loss of her 36-year-old granddaughter, Lisa Smith. The St. Louis grandmother said her granddaughter’s body was found Wednesday night on Bellerive Boulevard near Minnesota Avenue in the Carondelet neighborhood of south St. Louis.

Homicide detectives with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department are trying to determine the full circumstances of what led up to her death and have yet to discuss any possible motive.

Neighbors near the scene where Smith’s body was found said she appeared to have been badly beaten and then left on the street.

“Nobody should get that mad to just beat somebody to death,” Mayes said.

She said Smith was the mother of two and had a beautiful granddaughter. Her loss has been devastating for her family. They hope anyone with information about the case will contact the police.

“I hope they would come forward because they wouldn’t want anybody doing something like this to one of their relatives,” Mayes said.

Police encourage anyone with information about this case to contact CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477). Calls to CrimeStoppers are anonymous and can be eligible for a reward. Tips can also be submitted to the homicide division at 314-444-5371.

Mayes said the killer or killers took away the life of someone who was cherished by her family.

“It is very important that we find out who did this,” she said.
