ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Fashion met philanthropy Tuesday evening in a grand display of style and substance for the spectacular screening of “Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge.”

“We are one of only a few places in the United States to be able to debut this documentary and certainly the only library. It’s all film festivals, then St. Louis County Library,” Kristen Sourth, director and CEO of St. Louis County Library, said.

The documentary offers an intimate look at Diane von Furstenberg, who is a trailblazer, a fashion icon and a true woman in charge. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and has captivated audiences worldwide.

St. Louis has a popular fashion community that most do not know about.

“I think it’s also interesting to show that fashion is alive and well in St. Louis. You know, we were like a multi-billion-dollar economic driver with 800 fashion-related businesses. We had a garment district at one time. It’s in our city’s DNA,” Susan Sherman, co-founder of Saint Louis Fashion Fund, said.

The St. Louis County Library and the Saint Louis Fashion Fund hosted a red-carpet reception encouraging attendees to wear DVF and showcase Diane’s iconic designs. The film features interviews with global icons such as Oprah Winfrey, Marc Jacobs, and more.

The film dives deep into Diane’s journey from creating the legendary wrap dress to becoming one of the most powerful women in fashion, as listed by Forbes.

“Diane von Furstenberg is an icon. When I think about fashion, I think about her–her strength as a woman, as an entrepreneur. Her idea of taking a basic dress and making it fit every woman’s body,” Krista Tolbert, attendee, said.

Fashion isn’t what you wear; it’s how you wear your story. Those who attended said the film taught them how to be in charge of their own narratives.

For those who missed the showing, the documentary is available to stream on Hulu.
