JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – Emergency crews have recovered the body of a man who drowned Tuesday afternoon in the Big River at Rockford Park.

Crews first arrived to the park around 2 p.m. Tuesday. Several boats were used in search of a man after reports that he went underwater.

A Missouri State Highway Patrol spokesperson tells FOX 2 that the victim went underwater while swimming and did not resurface. The man was with a group or people shortly before he drowned.

Crews from High Ridge, Eureka, Fenton and the Big River Ambulance team have responded to the situation.

Jefferson County officials have passed legislation to crack down on swimming at the park due to dangers in recent years.

This is a developing story. FOX 2 will update as more information becomes available.
