Missouri, Illinois politicians react to situation at Trump rally

(KTVI) – Secret Service agents rushed former U.S. President Donald Trump off the stage at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, following apparent gunshots that rang through the crowd.

Donald Trump’s campaign said in a statement that he was “fine” after being whisked off the stage.

Several politicians from Missouri and Illinois have responded to situation:

Mike Parson (Missouri Governor)

Parson, a Republican, offered the following remarks via social media platform X:

“Please join [First Lady] Teresa and me in praying for President Trump, his family, and all victims who were in attendance at the rally in Pennsylvania today. Please pray for our nation.”

Josh Hawley (Missouri U.S. Senator)

Hawley, a Republican, offered the following remarks via social media platform X:

“Pray for President Trump. And for justice.”

“Pray for the victims of this violence.”

Andrew Bailey (Missouri Attorney General)

Bailey, a Republican, offered the following remarks via social media platform X:

“Praying for @realDonaldTrump and all the attendees at his rally this evening. May justice be swift.”

Ann Wagner (Missouri U.S. Representative)

Wagner, a Republican, offered the following remarks via social media platform X:

“Praying for President Trump and anyone else injured during this hateful act of violence.”

J.B. Pritzker (Illinois Governor)

Pritzker, a Democrat, offered the following remarks via social media platform X:

Violence is never the answer in our democracy. I am closely monitoring the situation and praying for former President Trump’s recovery. Thankful to the Secret Service for their quick response.

Tammy Duckworth (Illinois U.S. Senator)

Duckworth, a Democrat, offered the following remarks via social media platform X:

“There is absolutely no excuse—and no place whatsoever—for violence in American politics, and those responsible for this must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. I am keeping Donald Trump in my thoughts and hoping he has a swift and full recovery.”

Mike Bost (Illinois U.S. Representative)

Bost, a Republican, offered the following statement:

“Tracy [his wife] and I are shocked by the news of the attack on President Trump in Pennsylvania this afternoon. We are monitoring the situation closely and praying for the President.”
