ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Can the real Slim Shady “Show-Me” a new album? The answer to that is yes, on Friday.

Eminem, also known as Marshall Mathers III, is gearing up for his 12th studio album to be released, titled “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).” Rolling Stone noted that, just like the album name, it is bidding a farewell to the rap artist’s alter ego that came to life in his second studio album, “The Slim Shady LP.”

One part that isn’t erased from Mathers is his early childhood roots, right here in Missouri.

Eminem was born in St. Joseph, which is just about an hour north of Kansas City, in 1972. Throughout his early years of childhood, he and his mom bounced around the area, including Savannah and Kansas City. According to News Press Now, he lived in public housing and attended public school, just like other kids in the neighborhood.

Ever since leaving, Mathers doesn’t appear to speak much about living in Missouri, leaving his presence there one of the biggest mysteries in St. Joseph, News Press Now said.

Due to the fact that Mathers moved to Detroit when he was 11 or 12 years old, many of his fans, including himself, trace his upbringing to Michigan. Some people attribute this to the reasoning that he simply didn’t accomplish much while in Missouri, and his most pivotal years within his rapping career were spent in Detroit.

The Detroit Historical Society backs up this viewpoint, stating that at 14 years old, Eminem would join friends and groups to perform battle raps at clubs. Just years later, he and his group, Soul Intent, were releasing songs before he went solo.

Fast forward to 2024, and many have their eyes on his newest conceptual album, which has hinted at the end of an era.

“The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)features 19 tracks, with recommendation from the artist himself to listen to the album in order.
