ST. LOUIS – One man who was accused of shooting at two separate vehicles last week in south St. Louis has been charged.
According to the probable cause statement, 40-year-old Lenard Blair is charged with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action.
Police were notified of shots fired on July 6 near Virginia Avenue and Itaska Street. The victim told police he tried to pass a Subaru when he saw a barrel come out from the driver’s side window. The victim heard a gunshot and police noted bullet damage to the passenger side of the victim’s car.
One day later, officers responded to Meramec Street and 38th Street with another victim who said he heard a loud bang while driving. Police found a bullet hole on the driver’s side of the trunk.
Upon reviewing surveillance footage, they saw a Subaru pass the second victim’s vehicle. There was no damage before the Subaru passed, but there was damage after. Police also noticed that the Subaru in the footage was the same vehicle from the prior day’s incident.
After the Subaru was connected to Blair, police located the car and conducted a traffic stop, noting that there was a shotgun on the floorboard.
Blair admitted that he owned the firearm and had fired it for the past three days, including at vehicles. He recalled both incidents of shooting at the victim’s cars, saying that the second victim was following him.
Blair’s first hearing is scheduled for July 16.
