ST. LOUIS – Get ready for some heavy rain along the way. This, on top of our already saturated soil and full steam beds, is likely to lead to additional flooding troubles over the coming days.
A cold front from the northwest is trying to punch into the warm and humid air. Out ahead of it, we continue to have thunderstorms.
This is a slow-moving front that will be slowed even further by the arrival of Hurricane Beryl on the coast of Texas this morning.
The chance of storms will be around throughout the day on Monday. We could even see a few isolated severe storms Monday afternoon. Highs Monday in the upper-80s.
As Beryl moves north through Texas, it will use the stalled-out cold front as a track, bringing its remnants up and through the Missouri and Ohio River Valleys.
By Tuesday morning, widespread rain and some thunderstorms will move in and linger into early Wednesday. A widespread 2-4 inch of rain is expected across the St. Louis area because of this.
Some areas, especially the south and southeast, could see even more. It will depend on how far south the cold front gets before it stalls and the exact path of the tropical remnants.
This will cause rivers and creeks that are still very full to rise up quickly again. Those who live and work near waterways should make preparations now.
We will dry out on Wednesday and they will see quiet but hotter weather into the weekend.
