ST. LOUIS — Temperatures are soaring, and Cool Down St. Louis is stepping in to help those in need.

Cool Down St. Louis helps people struggling to pay their utility bills. In addition to financial assistance, the organization provides free air conditioner window units. Gentry Trotter from Cool Down St. Louis emphasizes the importance of checking on people in brick homes during sustained heat.

“These homes retain heat.  Over the next five to six days, it’s going to be really hot.  So they bake. There’s no ventilation for them, there is no air conditioning for them, nothing is moving around except for stale, dangerous, deadly air,” said Trotter.
