FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. – A rural Illinois man killed a family member’s dog following a dispute and is facing charges, according to local authorities.
Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon said deputies received a domestic violence call on June 8 at a home in Mulkeytown. Dispatchers said the confrontation was between a juvenile female and an adult family member.
Deputies arrived at the home and spoke with Frederick M. Edwards, 36, and others at the residence.
Bacon claims deputies determined Edwards was the aforementioned adult family member. Following the confrontation with the juvenile, Edwards retrieved the dog from his yard, brought the dog inside, and then hung the dog from a ceiling rafter with a chain. Edwards allegedly brandished a knife during the ordeal.
Deputies took Edwards into custody.
The Franklin County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Edwards with aggravated cruelty to animals and aggravated assault. Edwards remains jailed without bond pending a status hearing.
